At Home Physical Therapy - Guidelines To Help You Choose The Best Personal Trainer

 

Physical therapy, also called physical therapy, is one of the many allied healthcare professions that includes occupational therapy, exercise physiology, exercise science, health counseling, movement, manual therapy, and kinesiology. Physical therapists, often referred to as PTs, assist patients with recovering from debilitating injuries and illnesses through a range of techniques that are used for rehab. Often physical therapists combine techniques such as massage, electrical stimulation, laser therapy, stretching, heat and cold therapy, and ultrasound for the treatment of back pain, neck pain, head pain, joint pain, and other musculoskeletal ailments. Physical therapists often work in hospitals, nursing homes, outpatient clinics, and other medical centers.

 

PTs are specially trained to assess the patient's condition and determine the most effective course of action for treatment. Some physical therapy techniques are used to stretch out muscles to reduce pain; to help patients prevent further injury by strengthening muscles and improving flexibility; and to return injured persons to daily living as quickly as possible. A physical therapist may recommend stretching exercises, stress relief exercises, or diagnostic tests, depending upon the situation. For example, if a patient suffers from chronic pain, PT from the Axcess Accident Center might suggest regular exercise. If the patient has been inactive for a long time and is unable to complete daily chores because of pain, the therapist might recommend performing simple stretches to increase flexibility.

 

Before your first visit as a physical therapist, you will be asked questions to assess your current health status and ask any questions you may have about your case. You will likely be asked to bring documentation, such as a medical record, which documents your history of illnesses and injuries, and a detailed list of your current symptoms. Before your first appointment, you will also be given an examination by the PT, where you will be asked questions related to your complaints. For instance, during the examination, you may be asked questions about how you are feeling, how your movements are, what you can remember about your previous visit, what triggers your symptoms, what medications you are currently taking, and whether you are able to perform any of your exercises. During your first appointment as a physical therapist, you will be asked to perform several exercises at home in between PT visits. This is very helpful, as it allows you to get used to the equipment and techniques immediately, reducing the chances that you will not get the results you want. Usually, you will be given a sheet of paper with exercise instructions, which you will need to follow precisely to achieve your desired results. Once you have finished the first session, you should not leave the practice facility until you have completed all of the exercises listed on that sheet.

 

In general, the physical therapy treatment plan will include exercises, instruction, and drills. However, there are some cases where additional procedures may be necessary. For example, in the treatment of traumatic brain injury (TBI), rehabilitation of the head and movement of the limbs is usually necessary before patients can return to daily activities. In this case, the PT work plan would include the use of a wheelchair, crutches, walkers, or a similar device. There are also times when surgery may be necessary to repair or reconstruct parts of the body. If this is the case, the PT work plan will include the use of an artificial limb.

 

Even though PT is often considered to be the most painful form of physical therapy, it does offer a number of benefits, especially to those who suffer from chronic conditions.
